Stewardship
We are passionate about roasting and delivering exquisite coffee. We are equally driven to create a new standard in service for our partners and customers.

That is why we pursue twin goals at Callao Coffee.  We work hard to deliver our handcrafted coffees with the quality our customers have come to rely on as we support worthy causes around the world.

Make a difference in your world. We'll supply the coffee.
These are the organizations we currently support:
Orphan Helpers
orphanhelpers.jpgOrphan Helpers is a Christian organization that works to serve and meet the needs of orphaned, abused, and incarcerated children throughout Central America. It is now the preferred partner in government-run orphanages and detention centers in El Salvador and Honduras.

Orphan Helpers cares for children abandoned by their own families, passed over by adoption agencies, unwanted by private orphanages, and rejected by society as criminals and outcasts. Orphan Helpers believes that God has a unique purpose for every child's life, and thus works to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of these children.

Orphan Helpers hires teachers and workers for the children in these orphanages and juvenile detention centers. Orphan Helpers also sends teams of volunteers and interns to Central America to serve these children from within the local communities. The vision of Orphan Helpers is to multiply its effect by empowering today's orphans to become tomorrow's helpers.

Shade Grown
Shade Grown.jpgIn the mid-elevations of Central and South America, many of the forests still standing are part of shade-grown coffee farms. The natural canopy under which shade coffee is grown often provides the last refuge for birds who have lost much of their habitat to the vast destruction of tropical forests.

Bird Friendly
birdfriendly.gifEvery day more and more consumers are demanding shade-grown coffee and are willing to pay a few more cents to enjoy a great tasting cup of coffee with the satisfaction of knowing that they are supporting bird conservation, a healthy environment, and the livelihood of many small-scale farm owners.

Each year more coffee plantations are being certified with the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (SMBC) "Bird Friendly®" seal of approval because it is the only 100% organic shade-grown coffee certification available.
Here are highlights of some of the benefits of "Bird Friendly" status, some due to its organic and/or fair trade status as well.

Farmers, roasters, and distributors that carry the "Bird Friendly®" seal of approval are benefiting from better tasting coffee because shade-coffee beans ripen more slowly, resulting in a richer flavor.
  • Fair and stable prices for producers.

Farmer Friendly
Callao Coffee is committed to forming direct relationships and partnerships at origin, not only to directly source the best coffee beans, but to ensure that producers share in our profits and benefit financially by our purchases.

Our goal is to educate our customers about the diversity and beauty of different parts of the coffee world—and to ensure that the producers of coffee are able to make a dignified living for their efforts in order to grow and improve the quality of their lives.

Fair Trade
Fair Trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries and promote sustainability.

The movement advocates the payment of a higher price to producers and encourages social and environmental standards. It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fresh fruit, chocolate and flowers.

Fair Trade's strategic intent is to work with marginalized producers and workers in order to help them move toward economic self-sufficiency and stability. It also aims to allow them to become greater stakeholders in their own organizations, as well as play a wider role in international trade.

Fair Trade proponents include a number of international development aid, social, religious and environmental organizations such as Christian Aid, SERRV International, Oxfam, Amnesty International, Catholic Relief Services, and Caritas International.

Fair Trade Certification empowers farmers and farm workers to lift themselves out of poverty by investing in their farms and communities, protecting the environment, and developing the business skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
